The Wearing Space

Can space harm us?

The wearable space we designed was not meant to harm, but rather to protect those who wear it. What if the space we occupy turns against us, using all of modern technology? What if entarnce is barred from certain individuals, who may not know even what was the criteria for which they were excluded?

Facial Recognition softwares have been in development for years now, mostly used by private companies in order to verify and/or identify individuals to grant them access. Moreover, the use of facial recognition for law enforcement purposes has been widespread in China, but not only. Our privacy, our faces are no longer our. There is a saying on the internet: if it's free- you're the product. In this day and age, in this capitalist society where everything is for sale, can spaces still protect us, or are they going to be at the front of the attack?

This project involved many technical difficulties: coding, engineering and teamwork of course, however the most significant difficulty was the moral question- should we be doing this? This is not a reflection of reality, this is a ticking time bomb

Work Process

We started by doodling the machine, then refined it, calculated the needed compartments and started modeling away, using 3D printing and laser cutting

Face Recognition

Using Python, we programmed a face recognitions software. We taught the software to recognize our teachers' faces

Building The Machine

Using 3D printed spikes, laser cut cardboard, our own engineered apparatus and some good faith, we went to build the door frame
